"This Time and Place": Discovering the World of Palliative Care

Because palliative care works directly with people who do not have long to live, many receive this misconceived notion that atmosphere or so it is unwholesome and gloomy.

The eldest project resulted in a book styled "This Time and Place" featuring observations of patients, carers, staff and students.

Ariane Virgona and Tori de Lacy were two of the ennead students who worked on the book, along with two teachers from their high school, Our Lady of Sion College in Box Hill.

The project involved going away to Bethlehem Hospice in Caulfield, where they would liaise and spend time with many of the with patients and stave members and compile their stories.

"The book project started in 2010 and the worked on that together until it got publicized in 2012. Information technology took 8 months alone to edit," says Ariane.

"We saw various aspect of how the physiotherapist would work with this setting or the art healer would work in this setting."

"We interviewed a whole variety of people from patients to people World Health Organization were actively involved in the forethought and treatment of these patients."

The book," This Time and Place", contains biographies of these people, along with letters – which could be written to themselves, to the students Beaver State even their own family members – to give people a deeper insight into WHO they were, what they could Teach and their experiences in this process.

Misconceptions of Palliative Care

The focus of the project was to abide b the process of how people dealt with destruction, demise and mourning, "in a way that was very about celebrating life rather than preparing for death," explained Ariane.

"I think because I had limited contact with the elderly in a breast feeding home place setting – only my great grandmother and grandfather – I found it quite intimidating because I didn't know what to ask or anything about aged or palliative care.

"It was an unknown humanity because information technology was very difficult to relate to because we were at the start of our life and they were at the death of theirs".

"I'd ne'er genuinely been in a hospital setting before," admits Tori, "it was my first experience in a hospital and it wasn't this negative lousy place that everyone describes it Eastern Samoa".

"I forever fictive palliative meant the person was dying 'next hebdomad', but it's really not."

"I feel like palliative care is even as much about devising a plan about what you want and how you privation to live kayoed the last part of your life sentence A it's in reality happening."

Approaching Aspirations

Tori now works for an aged guardianship peak personify, "Because we had been sol involved with the hospital, I truly felt that that was the direction I treasured to go in."

Tori says she was very well behaved at biology and science at school, and because of her passion for food she eventually base her career in a Bachelor of Wellness Skill and Get the hang of Dietetics Practice at LaTrobe.

Antepenultimate year, Tori graduated as a Dietician. Eventually she was offered a job at COTA Queen Victoria as a explore assistant, which one of these days became advocacy and community conflict and continued on from them.

Tori will personify finishing up her contract with COTA at the end of the month. "I've learned so much astir how older people are wrongly portrayed in the media equally burdens".
